Available Activities:

Walking Trails

Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo offers walking routes to satisfy all walkers. There are three distinct, clearly labeled routes, which comprise an 8 kilometer (4.97 mile) circuit – the first private circuit in Portugal. Along these tree lined routes you will be able to visit the winery and wine cellar, olive press, patron chapel, and the Nossa Senhora do Carmo Chapel. Guests may also explore the farm’s vegetable garden, chicken coop, stream, and terraces. Equipped with the proper gear and maps, visitors can enjoy this outdoor activity and experience the history and traditions of a traditional Douro quinta – a farm.

Corgo Walking Trail [11 km (7 miles)]

Transportation is available for guests who wish to explore the Corgo Walking Trail in Alvações do Corgo. The drive takes approximately one hour. The Corgo Walking Trail is located in the heart of the Douro wine region. The trail meanders through vineyard terraces, small villages, and offers unique views of the Corgo river.

Granja do Tedo Walking trail [11 km (7 miles)]

The remarkable landscape inspires every step of the walk along the Granja do Tedo trail.

GPS Winecaching
Quinta Nova and A2Z Adventures have launched a completely new activity in Portugal called winecaching. Winecaching is similar to geocaching. It involves the discovery of “wine caches” spread throughout the quinta‘s vineyards.

Guests have the opportunity to learn about the world of Douro olive oil through olive picking and olive oil tasting. Wine tours and tastings are also available. Visitors can learn about the quinta‘s vineyards and underground wine cellar, which was established in 1764.

Grape Vintage Day

During the harvest season, the month of September, guests have the opportunity to harvest grapes with experts, taste the first wine in the cellars, and enjoy a typical vintage lunch. The harvesting experience concludes with Port and Douro wine tasting.

A true appreciation of the Douro Valley can only be gained through a boat trip along the river. By speedboat one can access small inlets which larger boats cannot, allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery in the most private manner. A tour by speedboat also allows guests to stop and photograph birds in flight, or swim, anywhere along the river. Alternatively, a calmer trip up the river is possible on thebarcos rabelo – traditional Port boats that are exact replicas of the original boats that carried casks of Port wine from Douro quintas to lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia.
