Established in 1816, Quinta do Infantado belongs to the Roseira family since 1904. It is located in the north bank of the Douro, in Chanceleiros, 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) from Pinhão. The quinta has
46 hectares (114 acres) of vineyards, of which 100% are class A, equivalent to a Grand Cru (French reputable wine classification). Of the 46 hectares (114 acres), 12 hectares (30 acres) are used for certified viticulture.
The quinta only grows Portuguese grapes. Among the more than 15 types of red varietals, the Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz are the most important. The types of grape Viosinho, Rabigato, Gouveio and Moscatel Galego are used for White Porto.
The red dry wines show a sunny terroir (French word for "local") and freshness. The Porto wines are drier than usual because of a longer fermentation.
All wines, both Douro and Porto, are produced with exclusively local grapes, they are fermented in a vat and bottled in the quinta. In 1979, Quinta do Infantado was the first independent grower in Douro to start bottling Porto wine, putting an end to the long established monopoly of Gaia’s shippers in the Porto trade.
Quinta do Infantado in three words: balance, terroir and elegance to make food friendly wines and Portos.
